About : This essay competition provides an opportunity for
students in senior secondary schools in Nigeria to
win prizes in the form of educational grants.The competition is part of the Foundation's initiative to promote creative
and analytical thinking in senior secondary
students in Nigeria and is a follow up on the
Foundation’s Read Africa initiative, which
promotes reading culture among students
through the reading and free distribution of Africa
literary classics in secondary schools. The
national essay competition is also held in Ghana
and Senegal.

Prizes : First prize - 1 million naira
Second prize - 750 thousand naira
Third prize - 500 thousand naira
Deadline : November 13th, 2015

The one with streaks of whitish and dimpled

Her neck frames pendants of worthful jewels
And her hair, it is glossily black whilst the breeze
let it dance...
No wonder she own a crowd of desperate suitors
But she chose me that stood out of them...
Yes, I did have this simple picture
Also with streaks of whitish and dimpled smiles
No pendants nor glossy hair
But a casual look of an unusual friend...
I would've married morenike to myself
Plus her lumps of riches
And the classy beauty..
At a little yessing gesture,
she would've been my bride
But I should ask
Where lies her modesty? —
